Explain the term dialysis. How can it be increased?

Dialysis: It is the process of separating colloids from crystalloids by diffusion. An electrolyte's ions, however, can pass through a parchment or cellophane membrane while colloidal particles cannot. The ordinary dialysis process is slow. Dialysis is performed by applying an electric field in order to increase it.

Give two differences between macromolecular colloids and associated colloids.

Macromolecular colloids Associated colloids Molecules can take any shape and are highly flexible. These colloids behave as normal electrolytes at low concentrations and behave as colloidal only at high concentrations. These are having high molecular masses. The molecular masses of these colloids are generally high.

Give two differences between physical adsorption and chemical adsorption.

Physical adsorption Chemical adsorption The forces between the adsorbate molecules and the adsorbent are weak van der Waals forces. The forces between the adsorbate molecules and the adsorbent are strong chemical forces similar to chemical bonds. Usually occurs at low temperature and decreases with the increase in temperature. It occurs at high temperatures and increases with the increase of temperature.
