Fluids exert a force of friction on objects moving through them. The frictional force exerted by a fluid (air or water) is called drag (or drag force). Drag force acts in a direction opposite to the direction of motion of the object.

The fluid frictions depend on the four factors. They are:
(i) Speed of the object: Higher the speed of an object moving through a fluid, higher will be the frictional force (or drag) acting on it.
(ii) Shape of the object: The streamlined shaped objects will have less friction while moving through fluid than the objects which do not have this shape.
(iii) Size of the object: If the size of the object is greater while moving through a fluid, greater will be the frictional force acts on it.
(iv) Nature of the fluid: The frictional force depends on the thickness(viscosity) of fluid. Higher the viscosity, greater will be the friction on the object moving through it.
