The groundwater is stored between layers of hard rock below the water table is called an aquifer. Aquifers are like huge underground lakes filled with rocks from which water can be pumped out with tube wells or hand pumps.

The upper level of water under the ground which occupies all the spaces in the soil and rocks, is called water table. Water table represents a depth in the ground below which soil and rocks are completely filled with water.

The water level under the ground is called the water table. It is the upper level of an underground surface in which the soil or rocks are permanently saturated with water. The water table depends on the season and it varies from place to place. Water table increases in the rainy season and decreases in the summer time.
