1. Based on the path followed by the object:
i) Linear motion e.g., motion of car on a straight road.
ii) Curvilinear motion e.g., motion of a train on a curved track.
iii) Circular motion e.g., swirling stone tied to the rope.
iv) Rotatory motion e.g., motion of a fan.
v) Oscillatory motion e.g., clock pendulum.
vi) Zigzag (irregular) motion e.g., motion of a bee.

2. Based on duration:
i) Periodic motion e.g., motion of a bob of a simple pendulum.
ii) Non-periodic motion e.g., swaying of the branches of a tree.

3. Based on speed:
i) Uniform motion e.g., hour hand of a clock.
ii) Non-uniform motion e.g., motion of a train, as it leaves a station.
