A simple tissue of the plant is a collection of similar type of cells that carry out the same function.

Parenchyma, collenchyma and sclerenchyma are three types of simple permanent tissues.
Parenchyma: Parenchyma cells are the living cells that are arranged with large intercellular spaces between them. Parenchyma tissue generally stores food. The parenchyma is called the chlorenchyma if it contains chlorophyll, and it is called arenchyma if it is filled with air.

Collenchyma: Collenchyma tissue is responsible for flexibility in plants. The bending of various plant parts like tendrils and stems of climbers without breaking is due to this tissue along with the mechanical support.

Sclerenchyma: The stiffness and hardness in plants are due to sclerenchyma tissue. The husk of a coconut is made of dead sclerenchymatous tissue. There is no inner space inside the cell as their walls are heavily thickened by lignin. This tissue is present in the hard coverings of nuts and seeds, stems, in the veins of leaves, and around vascular bundles.
