Radius = 1 2 6 2 + 8 2 = 1 2 36 + 64 = 1 2 × 10 = 5 c m Area of circle is π r 2 = 3 . 14 × 5 × 5 = 78 . 5 c m 2 Area of rectangle is l × b = 6 × 8 = 48 c m 2 Area of shaded portion = Area of Circle - Area of Rectangle = 78 . 5 - 48 = 30 . 5 c m 2 Thus, the area of shaded region is 30 . 5 c m 2

Given that ABCD is a square, P , Q , R and S are the mid points of the sides AB , BC , CD and DA Side of the square BC = 12 cm Now, the area of the square ABCD = 12 2 = 144 cm 2 Since, Q is a mid point of BC ∴ Radius = BQ = 12 2 = 6 cm Now, the area of the quadrant BPQ = πr 2 4 = 3 . 14 × 6 2 4 = 3 . 14 × 36 4 = 113 . 04 4 cm 2 So, the area of four quadrants = 4 × 113 . 04 4 = 113 . 04 cm 2 ∴ Area of the shaded region = Area of the square - Area of four quadrants = 144 - 113 . 04 = 30 . 96 cm 2 Hence, the area of the shaded region is 30 . 96 cm 2
