Budding is a method of asexual reproduction in which the parent body develops an outgrowth called a bud. The bud grows in size and ultimately separates as a new individual. Grafting is a technique of producing composite plants by joining the high yielding shoot system of one variety with a strong root system of another variety, e.g., Apple, Mango. The plant with a vigorous root system is used as stock. The plant with a desirable shoot system is called the scion. One of its shoots is cut from its base. Both bases of scion and top of stock are given complimentary cuts. Scion is fitted over the stock. The union is covered with grafting clay and bandaged.
