EMF can be defined as the generation of a potential difference in a coil due to the changes in the magnetic flux through it. In simpler words, electromotive force or EMF is said to be induced when the flux linking with a conductor or coil changes. Electromotive forces can be induced in two different ways The first way involves the placement of an electric conductor in a magnetic field that is moving. The second way involves the placement of a constantly moving conductor of electricity into a magnetic field that is static in nature.

An emf will be induced across an electric conductor in a changing magnetic field. This is called electromagnetic induction. According to Lenz's law, the direction of induced current is such that it opposes the very cause that produces it.

What is eddy current?

Eddy currents are currents that are generated in a conductor as a result of a changing magnetic field. In a plane perpendicular to the magnetic field, they flow in closed loops. Eddy currents get their name from the fact that they resemble eddies or whirlpools. Eddy currents are the induced currents that occur when a conductor is put in a changing magnetic field.
