The two celled (generative cell and vegetative cell) pollen grains when reach the stigma, the nucleus of generative cell divides into two male gametes or male nuclei. The intine forms the pollen tube on germination.

Function of pollen tube: The pollen tube secretes the enzymes which digest the tissues of the stigma and style. The pollen tube grows chemo tropically into the style. Out of the two male nuclei, one fuses with the egg and forms zygote. This is called syngamy. The another male nuclei fuses with two secondary female nuclei and form endosperms. This is called triple fusion. As a whole, it can be concluded that pollen tube leads to the double fertilisation in plants.
