The set of four quantum numbers help us to get complete information about all electrons in an atom that is, energy shell, type of orbital occupied and the orientation of that orbitals.

Principle quantum number $(n) :$ It describes the size of the electron wave and the total energy of the electron. It has integral values $1, 2, 3, 4 . . . . . . .$ etc.

Azimuthal quantum number $(l)$ $:$ It describes the shape of electron cloud and the number of subshells in a shell. It can have values from $0$ to $(n - 1)$ .

Magnetic Quantum Number $:$ This quantum number describes the orientation of the orbitals. It is represented as $m_{l}$ . The value of this quantum number ranges from $- l$ to $+ l$ .

Spin quantum number $(s)$ $:$ It describes the spin of the electron. It has values $+ 1 / 2$ and $- 1 / 2$ . $(+)$ signifies clockwise spinning and $(-)$ signifies anticlockwise spinning.
