Water of crystallization is the fixed number of water molecule that are present inside a salt that forms the structure of a hydrated salt.

We can make the crystals of copper sulphate using the following activity:
Materials required: China dish, Bunsen flame, copper sulphate salt ( $10 g$ ), filter paper, water, funnel, tripod stand, glass rod and a beaker.

Procedure:
Take $10 g$ of copper sulphate in a china dish and dissolve it in minimum amount of water to make copper sulphate solution. Now filter the contents to remove the undissolved impurities. Heat the filtrate gently using a Bunsen flame as shown in the figure given below:

Dip a glass rod inside the dish to ensure the formation of the crystal. If small crystals appear on the glass rod, stop the flame and allow it to cool gradually. Once cooled, filter the contents in the china dish and dry.

Observation: We can see the formation of a blue coloured crystal. The so formed crystal is a copper sulphate crystal. Gentle heating of the filtrate evaporates all the water and only the pure form of copper sulphate in the form of crystals is left behind the china dish.
