The conflicts between the Nawab of Bengal and the East India Company intensified in the early $17$ ^thcentury after the death of Aurangzeb, who granted the permission of duty-free trade in Bengal to East India Company.

This consent annoyed the regional rulers of Bengal, causing loss of revenue because of the duty-free trade of the Company and undermining the authority of Nawab of Bengal. The Nawab of Bengal ordered for the withdrawal of the trading rights of the Company if its officials engaged themselves in private trade. The Nawabs also denied the Company any right to mint coins and halted it from extending its fortification.

They declared these demands of Nawab as unfair because trade would be beneficial only when made duty-free and the company had a large number of fortifications for storage and settlements. These conflicts between the Company and Nawab of Bengal led to confrontations and finally culminated in the famous Battle of Plassey in $1757$ .
