The image of an object kept in front of a convex lens is formed on the same side or other side of the convex lens.

The position of the image formed by a convex lens depends on the position of the object in front of it. When the object is between the optical centre and the focus of the lens, the image is formed behind the lens. The image is formed at infinity when the object is at the focus. When the object is at a distance between the focal length $(f)$ and two times the focal length $(2 f)$ the image is formed beyond $(2 f)$ . When an object is at a distance $(2 f)$ , the image is formed at the same position. Beyond the $(2 f)$ position of the object, the image is formed between the $(2 f)$ and $(f)$ . When the object is at infinity the image is formed at the focus of the lens.

Image positions in concave lenses:

The image of an object kept in front of a concave lens is always formed on the same side of the lens. The image is always formed between the focus and the optical centre of the concave lens for different positions of the object.
