Natural vegetation means the original plant cover of an area which has not been affected or altered by human interference. It is generally classified into three wide categories, namely :
1. Forests, which are usually a collection of trees growing naturally in a large area. They flourish in areas where temperature is high enough and rainfall is plentiful for growth of large number of trees.
2. Grasslands occur in regions of moderate rainfall in both low and mid-latitudes.
3. Shrubs, scrub and thorny bushes are found in dry regions.

Desert Vegetation
Thorny bushes are found in arid and semi arid areas of the Earth. Xerophytic plants adapt to the deserts. In the tropical deserts, rainfall is very scanty and heat is scorching. They are located on the western sides of the continents. They include the Sahara desert and the Kalahari desert of Africa, the Arizona desert of the USA, the Atacama desert of South America, deserts in the Middle East, Arabia, the Thar Desert of India and the South-West Australian Desert.

The camel, well adapted to stay for days without food and water, is the typical animal of the desert.
Certain reptiles, snakes, lizards, poisonous spiders and scorpions and some foxes and vultures are also found in the deserts.
