Portuguese
1. Vasco-da-Gama was the first Portuguese to reach the coast of Calicut in 1498, after crossing the Cape of Good Hope. He received a warm welcome from the local king and took different varieties of species to Europe that made him gain huge profit.
2. In due course of time, the trading centers were established at various places including Cochin, Goa and daman.

1. Dutch East India Company was the next European company to establish its colony in India. Dutch East India Company received a cutthroat competition from the British East India Company and the latter was successful in rivalry.
2. Dutch East India Company established its settlement at Pulicat, Surat, Chinsurah, Kasimbazar, Patna, Nagapattinam and Cochin.
British
1. British East India Company had the lengthiest stay in the Indian continent. At first, Sir Thomas Roe got the right to trade in India from Jahangir and as a result, the trade center was set up at Surat.
2. In due course of time, the British East India Company set up its factory at different places like Agra, Masulipatnam, Bahraich, etc. Moreover, the first British factory was set up in 1651 on the bank of Hooghly.
