It gives people an opportunity to choose a candidate as their representative who will look after their demands and needs. This way they directly take part in the formation of the government and give it the powers to govern them.

Elections in a democratic country creates the foundation for equality because every person of 18 years and above have the right of vote, irrespective of their social, economic, religious, cultural and political affiliation.

Since, people elect the government, it is accountable and answerable to the people for their actions and functions.

If people are unsatisfied with the functioning of their present government, they may decide to vote for another candidate or choose a different representative in the next elections.
