Why did knights become a distinct group, and when did they decline?

i) Since the ninth century, localised wars often occurred in Europe. So the unskilled peasants were not sufficient for this frequent war. The lords needed good cavalry. This need led to the emergence of a new section of people-the knights.

ii)They were directly linked to the lords and lords were also subordinate to the king. The lords gave them a piece of land which was called a fief and promised them to protect it.

iii)Like feudal manor, Peasants cultivated the Knight's fief and exchanged knights promised to fight for lord and paid a regular tax. They had complete loyalty towards their lords.

iv) Along with the decline of feudalism, the knight system also declined in $15$ th century.
