Why did the salt laws become an important issue of struggle?

i) Salt law was the most hated law in India as British established their monopoly over salt production in India.

ii) Salt was needed in every household. India is having a wide coastline. So salt could be produced by the common people easily. But British put a ban on salt production by people.

iii) They forced common people to buy it from shop, paying a high price.

iv) Gandhi ji made this unpopular law as his target and accumulated large number of support from common Indians as it was effecting the life of every Indians.

v) With a prior notice to British, he started his march from Sabarmati Ashram to coastal village of Dandi. After a walk of three weeks he reached to Dandi with large supporters and broke the salt law by making a fistful of salt.
