1. Life
Buddha's royal name was Sidhartha. He was the son of Suddodhana, the chief of the Shakya Clan of Kapilavastu in the Nepal Tarai area. He was born in $566$ B.C. He promoted the idea of the "middle way" which mean existing between two extremes. He sought life without social indulgences but also without deprivations. After six years of searching Buddhist beliefs, Gautama found enlightenment while meditating under a Bodhi tree.
Mahavira was Vardhamana who was born at Kundagrama. His father Siddhartha was chief of his clan. Sidhartha had two sons and Vardhamana was the youngest of two. He was born in $539$ BC. At the age of $30$ he left his family and royal household, gave up his possession, including clothing and become a monk. He spent twelve years in deep silence and meditation and conquer his desire and feelings.

2. Teachings. Buddha's teachings are known as dharma he taught wisdom, kindness, patience, generosity, and compassion were the most important virtues. As per Buddha, the end of suffering is the end of desires. The truth should be followed in all circumstances. Mahavira described the supremacy of human life and stressed the importance of a positive attitude towards life. He discussed Ahimsa, Satya Acharya Brahmacharya and aparigraha in his teachings. Mahavira rejected the concept of God as a protector and creator. He denounced worshipping idols and material gains and personal benefits.
