Excretion is primarily the process of elimination of metabolic wastes like urea, uric acid, sweat, carbon dioxide and bile pigments from the body. The excretory system has following importances in our body apart from the elimination of wastes.

It helps in controlling the osmotic pressure (Balance between water and inorganic ions)

It maintains a constant internal environment (homeostasis).

It maintains the pH level of the human body fluid.

The primary excretory organs in our body are as follows:

The skin: It removes the excretory product in the form of a salty liquid called sweat.

The lungs: These are pairs of spongy and air-filled organs that remove carbon dioxide and water.

The liver: It is a large organ that excretes cholesterol, bile pigments, drug and toxic substances.

The kidneys: These are bean-shaped organs that remove nitrogenous wastes such as urea, uric acid, ammonia, etc.
