There are two types of nerves present in our body. These are sensory nerves and motor nerves.

Sensory nerves: It is also known as afferent nerves. These are the nerves that send messages to the brain or the spinal cord from the sense organs. These are nerve fibres in the peripheral nervous system. They carry information from the peripheral nervous system to the central nervous system. For example, stepping on hot sand activates sensory neurons in the soles of your feet. These nerves send a message to the brain, which makes you aware of the heat.

Motor nerves: It is also known as efferent nerves, which carry impulses away from the brain to muscles and glands. It carries the messages in the form of a response from the brain or the spinal cord to other parts of the body such as the muscles and glands. They are responsible for carrying the information from the central nervous system to the peripheral nervous system. For example When you eat, for instance, lower motor neurons in your spinal cord send signals to the smooth muscles in your oesophagus, stomach, and intestines. These muscles contract, which allows food to move through your digestive tract.
