The 3R's of waste management help to reduce the amount of waste generated. Reducing the generation of garbage is very important as this waste includes hazardous chemical waste from factories, cleaning chemicals from houses, plastic waste from various places and poisonous gases produced on burning plastics or other waste materials which are a threat to the people.

Reduce: The generation of waste by reusing the material. For example, jute and cloth bags are long-lasting material and can be used for a very long time to carry items that have more weight. These do not tear easily as the paper or plastic bags do and we can reduce the use of these bags.

Reuse: It is the action or practice of using an item again and again, whether for its original purpose or for a different use. For example, old clothes can be used as dust cloths and for moping the floor. Reusing items also saves energy as more of it is required to manufacture new products.

Recycling: Recycling is a process where waste materials are converted into new materials and objects. The waste newspaper can be recycled for making fresh papers and we can reuse it. The recycling process helps to reduce waste in society. Non biodegradable wastes such as plastic and glass can also be recycled.
