Art and architecture flourished under the Pallava rulers. They built several temples during their reign including the famous Shore Temple at Mahabalipuram and Kailasanath Temple at Kanchipuram. They also excavated several rock temples at Mahabalipuram, some of which were called Rathas (chariots) and were named after the Pandava brothers.

These temples had statues of Pallava kings and queens alongside the images of gods and goddesses. These temples were not just places for worship but also centres of education.

Kanchipuram was an important centre of learning and scholarship under the Pallavas. Manimekalai and Silappadikaram were two important texts that were composed during this period. The Pallava rulers also patronized music, painting and dance.
