(i) they are unicellular, in some cases may be filamentous, mycelial, or colonial.
(ii) Cell wall is composed of chemical substances like peptidoglycan and polysaccharides.
(iii) The nucleus is without a nuclear membrane and nucleoplasm. (iv) DNA does not associate with histone protein, hence naked, called the nucleoid.
(v) Monerans do not possess any membrane-bound cell organelles like mitochondria, plastids, Golgi bodies, lysosomes, endoplasmic reticulum, etc.
(vi) No spindle apparatus formed during cell division.
(vii) Single-stranded flagella are present. They are composed of the chemical substance flagellin.
(viii) 70 S type (subunit 30 S and 50 S) of ribosomes are present.
(ix) They may be parasitic, saprophytic, symbiotic, chemoautotrophic, and photoautotrophic.
(x) They reproduce using binary fission or by the budding process.
