Any neurological, psychological, behavioural attributes enabling an organism to survive and reproduce is its habitat is called adaptations, and it allows the organisms to live in various habits. They originate due to the natural selection of proper variations appearing in living beings through mutations and recombination.

Ecological adaption in plants are :

Halophytes: Plants growing on saline soil are called halophytes and these are salt-tolerant plants that can grow in soil or waters of high salinity, coming into contact with saline water through its roots or by salt sprays, such as in saline semi-deserts, marshes, mangrove swamps, sloughs and seashore.

Hydrophytes: The plants which are adapted to grow fully or partially submerged in water or wet habitats are known as hydrophytes and these are also known as aquatic plants or a wetland plants and this type of plants consists reduced/thin cuticle, leaf stomata are fewer than those of terrestrial plants, reduced root system with air sacs, and less vascular tissue, necessary for flotation. Examples of hydrophytes are lotus and water hyacinths.

Xerophytes: Plants that grow in dry environments such as succulents are termed xerophytes and due to their special adaptations in stomata minimise the water loss through transpiration processes and makes the plant store water in thick and fleshy leaves. Hence, the xerophytes are succulents.
