Analgesics - These are chemical substance used to reduce suffering from pain without causing impairment of consciousness. e.g. - Aspirin

Give an example of food preserrative.

Food preservatives are substances that when added to food, can prevent, delay or bind, process fermentation, acidification or other food decay by bacterial growth. Examples include salt, sugar, vinegar, sodium benzoate, sorbic acid and propionic acid, etc.

Give an example of tranquillizer.

A tranquilizer is the term is generally used as a synonym for sedetive, is a drug that acts on the central nervous system and is used to calm, decrease anxiety, or help a person to sleep. Examples of tranquilizers are noradrenaline and chlordiazepoxide.

Disinfectants: It may be defined as the chemical substances which kill microorganisms but are not safe for contact with living tissues are known as disinfectants. Ex- Dettol.

Antibiotics are chemicals that kill or inhibit the growth of bacteria and are used to treat bacterial infections. Two examples of antibiotics are- penicillin and chloramphenicol.

What is tincture of iodine? What is its use?

Iodine is a powerful antiseptic. Tincture of iodine is a 2 - 3 % solution of iodine in an alcohol-water mixture. It is applied to wounds as an antiseptic. It kills all the microbes present in the wounded region.
