According to the universal law of gravitation $F = \frac{G m M}{r^{2}}$ Where $' F'$ is the force $' G'$ is the gravitational constant $' m'$ and $' M'$ are the masses and $' r'$ is the distance between two masses from the centre. The value of universal gravitational constant in $M . K . S .$ system is $6.67 \times 10^{- 11} m^{3} {kg}^{- 1} s^{- 2}$ .

The dimension for universal gravitational constant can be obtained from the following expression i.e., $G = \frac{F \times r^{2}}{m M}$

$G = \frac{[M L T^{- 2}] \times [L^{2}]}{[M^{2}]} = [M^{- 1} L^{3} T^{- 2}]$

The law and the constant $' G'$ do not depend on any factors and have the same form and value everywhere in the universe and in all situations. Hence, the law and the constant $' G'$ are called universal.
