The Liberals: They were a group that looked to change society. They wanted a country that tolerated all religions and opposed the uncontrolled power of dynastic rulers. They believed in the basic rights of every individual.

They argued for a representative, elected parliamentary government subject to laws interpreted by a well-trained judiciary independent of rulers and officials. They stood against the despotic rule of the monarch and nobles. However, they were not ‘democrats’.

They do not support the Universal adult franchise. They felt men of the property mainly should have the vote. They also did not want the vote for women.
