Skull: The skull is the bony structure that is present in the head. Its upper part is made up of eight bones that are completely fused and immovable. The face and jaws together contain 14 bones. The teeth are fixed to the jaw bone.

Functions of skull :

It encloses the brain and provide protection to it from injuries.

The lower jawbone is the only movable joint of the skull. It enables chewing of the food and talking.

Ribcage: It is a box-like structure present in the chest region of the body. Ribcage is made up of 12 pairs of bones called ribs. The last two pairs out of 12 are called floating ribs.

Functions of ribcage:

It gives protection to the lungs, heart and major blood vessels.

It anchors the muscles that help in breathing.

Backbone: The backbone is attached to the base of the skull and runs along the back of the body. It is made up of 33 bones that are called vertebrae.

Functions of backbone:

It acts as a central support to the body.

Along with the hip girdle, it helps us in standing upright.

It also provides support during locomotion.
