The following four factors affect the electrical resistance of a conductor:

(a) Temperature of the conductor: The resistance of all pure metal increases with an increase in temperature and on the other hand it, decreases by lowering the temperature.

(b) Length of the conductor: The resistance of a conductor is directly proportional to its length.

(c) Nature of the material of the conductor: When we take copper and aluminium wires of equal length and diameter, we will find that the resistance of the copper wire is less than the resistance of the aluminium wire.

(d) Area of cross-section of the conductor or thickness of the conductor: The resistance of a conductor is inversely proportional to its area of cross-section.
