Given: Object distance, u = - 24 cm The Focal length of the convex lens, f = 8 cm It means the object is placed beyond the 2 F distance. We can understand the image formed in this case by the below diagram : Let an object be P Q is placed in front of a convex lens beyond 2 F . As told above, consider a light ray P O that refracts through the lens and goes un deviated along the path O A . Consider another ray P B parallel to the principal axis. This ray after refraction passes through the second focus of the lens F ' . As you can see, the refracted rays converge at a point P ' in front of the lens. Hence P ' Q ' is the real, inverted, and diminished image of the object P Q that forms between F ' and 2 F ' of the lens.
