(i)-e The gray hair is due to minute airspace formed in the hair when the pigments lost. The colour of the hair is due to varying quantities of melanin. (ii)-c Mammary glands are modified sweat glands. These glands are found in both males and females. But in males it is rudimentary. (iii)-a During winter or during emotion, hairs on the skin gets lifted called piloerection. This is to trap air and act as a shield to prevent the cold air to enter inside the body. (iv)-f Urea is found in sweat, out of total urea excreted from the body just 1% is excreted through sweating. Sweat consists of about 99 per cent water, 0.2 to 0.5 per cent salts (mainly sodium chloride) and traces of urea (0.08 per cent). (v)-d Outer opening on the skin for sweating is called a sweat pore. It is estimated that the total number of sweat pores is 2 million. But people of hot countries, sweat pores are more in number. It helps in cooling the body by evaporation. (vi)-b Sebaceous glands is one of the derivative of the skin. It gives out an oily secretion that make the hair and outer surface of the skin oily and waterproof. B-Sebaceous glands: They are also called oil glands. They are the oil-secreting glands of our body. The substance secreted by them is called sebum. C-Hair follicle: It is a tunnel-shaped structure present in the dermis layer of the skin. This is the part from which the hair starts growing. It is nourished by the blood.

B - 5 Meissner corpuscles consist of a cutaneous nerve ending responsible for transmitting the sensations of touch. Meissner corpuscles are most sensitive to low-frequency vibrations between 10 to 50 Hertz and can respond to skin indentations of less than 10 micrometres. C - 4 The skin contains many sensory receptors. Pacinian corpuscles are nerve endings in the skin responsible for sensitivity to high-frequency vibration and deep pressure. D -3 The Sebaceous glands are lobulated glands consisting of many sacs that open into hairy follicle by a common duct. The epithelium layer of these glands secretes an oily secretion called sebum. It lubricates the hair, makes skin oily and waterproof and also prevents drying of the skin. E - 1 Human beings belong to the class Mammalia and are warm-blooded animals.
