Yoghurt- Lactobacillus

Yoghurt is a fermented milk product. The main culture in yoghurt is Lactobacillus bulgaricus. The function of the starter cultures is to ferment the lactose (milk sugar) to produce lactic acid. The increase in lactic acid decreases pH and causes the milk to clot which is characteristic of yoghurt.

Bread- Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Saccharomyces cerevisiae which ferments the sugar to produce alcohol and bubbles of carbon dioxide which makes the bread fluffy.

Root nodules of leguminous plants- Rhizobium

Rhizobia is a group of soil bacteria that infect the roots of legumes to form root nodules. They are found in the soil. They produce nodules in the legume where they fix nitrogen gas from the atmosphere turning it into a usable form of nitrogen.

Idli/Dosa- Lactobacillus

Fermentation is the process of converting carbohydrates to alcohol with the help of microorganisms under oxygen-free conditions. Fermentation of dosa batter is carried out mainly by lactobacillus.

Spoiled potato curry- Staphylococcus

Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis cause spoilage of potato as they have the ability to produce enzymes that are capable of degrading the tissues.
