The mixture containing naphthalene/ammonium chloride with sodium chloride can be separated by sublimation.

The given mixture of compounds should be taken in China dish covered with inverted funnel. Tip of the funnel should be packed with a cotton ball. China dish should be heated gently over a tripod stand.

Ammonium chloride undergoes sublimation i.e it converts vapour state and the vapours get condensed on the inner wall of the funnel when the set up is left for cooling.

Ammonium chloride is collected by scratching the sides of the inner wall of the funnel. The non-sublimable solid sodium chloride will remain behind in the china dish.
