(a) Carbon dioxide is one of the components of air. The increase in the amount of carbon dioxide intensifies the natural greenhouse effect, causing global warming. Deforestation leads to an increase in the amount of carbon dioxide in the air because the number of trees which consume carbon dioxide is reduced. (b) Acid rain is caused by two major pollutants such as sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide. (d) Acid rain corrodes the marble of monument or buildings. This corrosion of marble is known as marble cancer. (e) The drinking of river water contaminated (contamination of water) with sewage can cause water-borne diseases such as dysentery, cholera, typhoid, etc. Because sewage contains disease-carrying microorganisms, faecal matter and other wastes.
