The volcanic eruption is a natural disaster. Deep in the Earth's crust, it is so hot that some rocks slowly melt and become a thick flowing substance called magma. Since it is lighter than the solid rock around it, it rises and is collected in magma chambers. Some magma eventually pushes through vents and fissures to the Earth's surface and is called lava.

Volcanic eruptions release sulphur gases that combine with the water vapour to form sulphurous and sulphuric acid. This forms a very toxic mix of water and acid that is very harmful to people who breathe this mixture. The fine particles and gases released by volcanic eruptions cause air pollution. Volcanic ash made up of rock, sand and silt can travel to far off places. These tiny particles are abrasive and can contribute to air pollution.
