Construct a traingle $A B C$ with $A B = 4.2 cm, B C = 6 cm and AC = 5 cm$ .

Construct the circumcircle of the triangle drawn.

From the instructions given,

A triangle $A B C$ is constructed with $A B = 4.2 cm, BC = 6 cm and AC = 5 cm$ .

(i) Draw a line-segment $B C = 6 cm$ .

(ii) By using compass, draw a line with $4.2 cm$ length at $B$ .

(iii) By using compass, draw a line with $5 cm$ length at $C$ , the intersection point is marked $A$ . Now join $A B$ and $A C$ .

A circle that passing through all the three vertices of a triangle is called the circumcircle of the triangle.

To construct the circumcircle of a given triangle $A B C$ :

Draw the perpendicular bisectors of any two sides of the triangle.

Let the perpendicular bisectors of the sides $B C$ and $A C$ be drawn such that they intersect at point $O$ .

Draw a circle taking $O$ as centre and $O A$ or $O B$ or $O C$ as radius. This circle will pass through all the three vertices, $A, B a n d C$ .

The point where the perpendicular bisectors of the sides of a triangle meet, i.e $O$ is called circumcentre.
