Definition Microsporogenesis is the process of formation of microspores or the pollen grains from the microspore mother cells by meiosis.
Megasporogenesis refers to the formation of the megaspores (female gametes) from the megaspore mother cell.

Microsporogenesis and megasporogenesis occur through meiotic cell division. The microsporogenesis gives rise to pollen grain that develops into a male gametophyte. In both of these processes, meiotic division takes place resulting in the formation of haploid gametes. The megasporogenesis gives rise to megaspore that develops into the embryo sac. Microsporogenesis results in the formation of a pollen tetrad while megasporogenesis results in the formation of the embryo sac or the female gametophyte which develops from megaspore.
