Mitosis is a type of cell division that results in the formation of two daughter cells with a similar number of chromosomes. These daughter cells are genetically and morphologically similar to each other as well as to their parent cell. This process has been divided into four stages:

Prophase is the first stage of M-phase of cell cycle during which the nuclear division starts. The events that take place during this phase are as follows:

The nuclear membrane begins to disappear.

Condensation of DNA occurs.

The centrioles start moving to the opposite poles.

The spindle fibres begin to appear.

Nucleolus present inside the nucleus disappears.

Telophase is the last phase of mitosis during which the chromosomes have already reached the opposite poles. The events that occur during this stage are:

The nuclear membrane reappears around the daughter nuclei.

DNA begins to uncoil.

The spindle fibres disappear.

Nucleolus reappears in the daughter cells.
