Farmers are keen on selling their produce in Mandi where they will earn a higher profit, so they rely on intermediaries at the time of selling their crops. Wholesalers buy crops from intermediaries and sell it to retailers. The intermediaries also known as Dalals bargain with the wholesalers and sideline the interest of the farmers.

The ITC introduced a unique web-based system that provides farmers with up-to-date information regarding agriculture and marketing called e-choupal. It was started keeping in mind the weak infrastructure available for selling agricultural produce, small landholding, and exploitation of farmers. Farmers can use e-choupal to negotiate directly with companies for the sale of their crops.
