Step 1 : Draw a number line and mark the centre point as 0 . Step 2 : Mark the right side of the 0 as 2 cm at point A . Step 3 : Draw a perpendicular line A B on point A . Take the length of A B = 1 cm . Step 4 : With the help of compass draw an arc of radius O B with O as centre. Step 5 : Join O B . By Pythagoras theorem, we know that h 2 = p 2 + b 2 O B 2 = A B 2 + O A 2 O B = 1 2 + 2 2 = 1 + 4 = 5 unit Step 6 : With the same arc cut the number line at P as O B is 5 , so O P is 5 . It means P is the point on number line which represents 5 . Step 7 : Take O B as baseline, and draw a perpendicular of 1 cm at B . Name it as C . Step 8 : Join O and C . Here the length of O C is 6 cm . Step 9 : Now take O C as base and draw a perpendicular of 1 cm at C . Name it as D . Step 10 : Join O and D . Here length of O D = 7 cm Step 11 : Put the compass on O , measure till point D and draw an arc to join D to number line at Q . It means Q is the point on number line which represents 7 .

Locate - 2 & - 5 on number line.

Step 1 : Draw a number line and mark the centre point as 0 . Step 2 : Mark left side of the 0 as 1 cm at point A . Step 3 : Draw a perpendicular line A B on point A . Take the length of A B = 1 cm . Step 4 : With the help of compass draw an arc of radius O B with O as centre. Step 5 : Join O B . By Pythagoras theorem, we know that h 2 = p 2 + b 2 O B 2 = A B 2 + O A 2 O B = 1 2 + 1 2 = 1 + 1 = 2 cm Step 6 : With the same arc cut the number line at P as O B is 2 , so O P is 2 . It means P is the point on number line which represents - 2 . Step 7 : Mark left side of the zero as 2 cm at point C . Step 8 : Draw a perpendicular line C D on point C . Take the length of C D = 1 cm . Step 9 : With the help of compass draw an arc of radius O D with O as centre. Step 10 : Join O D Step 11 : With the same arc cut the number line at Q as O D is 5 , so O Q is 5 . It means Q is the point on number line which represents - 5 .
