The process of electrolysis is the interchange of atoms and ions by the removal or addition of electrons to the external circuit. The product of the process depends upon the nature of material, electrolyte any additive chemical and their values of standard electrode. The required products of electrolysis are in a different physical state from the electrolyte and can be removed by some physical processes.

The anode and cathode both is a silver electrode. Both electrodes are immersed in a silver nitrate solution-the electrolyte. When a steady current is passed through the solution, the net result is that silver metal is removed from the anode and deposited on the cathode. In the figure, the anode consists of a silver electrode, shown on the left.Silver gets deposited on silver cathode and an equivalent amount of silver is dissolved from silver anode.

AgNO 3 \to {Ag}^{+} + NO 3^{-} H_{2} O \leftrightarrow H^{+} + {OH}^{-} The products of an aqueous solution of {AgNO}_{3} with silver electrode : Reaction in solution . {AgNO}_{3} \to {Ag}^{+} + {NO}_{3}^{-} H_{2} O \leftrightarrow H^{+} + {OH}^{-} Ag will deposit at cathode and Ag electrode will dissolve at anode . At cathode : {Ag}^{+} + e^{-} \to Ag; At anode : Ag \to {Ag}^{+} + e^{-}$

Therefore, Ag will deposit at the cathode and dissolve at anode.
