The above drawing of a flower can be pollinated by ants, butterflies and bees. Pollination is the transfer of pollen grains from the anthers to the stigma of a flower.

Characteristics of insect-pollinated plants:

They are brightly coloured and have a sweet smell.

They produce a sweet liquid called nectar.

The pollen is heavy and sticky.

They have large petals so that insects can sit on them.

This flower cannot be pollinated by wind because the pollen is heavy and wind-pollinated pollen is very light so, they can fly to distant places.
