a)-iii) The chlorophyll absorbs the sunlight and utilises this energy for the process of photosynthesis where the carbon dioxide and water combine to synthesise glucose and oxygen. The glucose is converted to starch and stored. b)-iv) The lichen is the combination of algae and fungi where both mutually benefit each other. It is an example of symbiosis. c)-v) Mistletoe has green leaves but its root penetrates the bark of the host tree from where it obtained its water and minerals. Mistletoe is a partial parasite which obtains raw materials for photosynthesis from the host tree. d)-i) Rhizobium lives in the root nodules of leguminous crops. It is a nitrogen-fixing bacteria which fixes the atmospheric nitrogen into a soluble form that can be utilised by the plants. e)-ii) The pitcher plant fulfils its requirement for the element nitrogen by feeding on insects.
