1- (c) Sound is a form of energy which excites in our ears the sensation of hearing. It is a longitudinal wave that is created by a vibrating objects. It is the disturbance of particle performing oscillatory motion. 2- (a) Wind or reed instruments are known as organ pipes. Sound is produced when air is blown through them. When air is blown through the pipes, the air column inside them starts to vibrate. The frequency and pitch of the sound are changed by opening or closing the holes provided in these instruments. Some of these instruments are whistle, flute, trumpet, bugle, shehnai, bagpipe, etc. 3- (b) Frequency is the number of waves passing through a point at a certain time. The SI unit is hertz and it is equal to one wave per second. It also depends on the speed of vibrations. 4- (e) Pitch is a sensation that determines the shrillness of sound. It enables us to distinguish a shrill sound from a grave (hoarse) sound even though the two notes are of the same intensity. It is also directly related to the frequency of a sound. 5- (d) Loudness is the amount of sound that the human ear can perceive. The decibel is the unit used to measure the loudness of sound. It is a measure of intensity of sound. It also depends on amplitude of the wave.
