Let the total percentage in the train = P were ∴ 40 % of the passengers got down of station X ⇒ 40 % of P ⇒ 40 100 × P = 2 5 P … ( i ) Now remaining passengers = P - 2 5 P = 3 5 P 75 % of the remaining passengers got down at station Y ⇒ 75 % of 3 5 P ⇒ 75 100 × 3 5 P ⇒ 3 4 × 3 5 P ⇒ 9 20 P … ( ii ) and remaining 12 were taken to station to Z Now total passerngers ⇒ 2 5 P + 9 20 P + 12 = P from equation ( i ) and ( ii ) ⇒ 8 P + 9 P 20 + 12 = P ⇒ 12 = P - 17 P 20 ⇒ 12 = 3 P 20 ⇒ P = 12 × 20 3 = 60 Hence, total 60 passengers werer in the train

The population of a city increases by 10 % annually. If the present population is 65 , 000 , what will be its population after 2 years ?

∵ ' Population the city of present = 65 , 000 Increment in first year = 10 % ∴ 10 % of 65000 ⇒ 10 100 × 65000 ⇒ 6500 ∴ Population after 1 st year = 65000 + 6500 = 71500 Now in crement in population in second year = 10 % ∴ 10 % of 71500 ⇒ 10 100 × 71500 ⇒ 7150 ∴ Population after II nd year ⇒ 71500 + 7150 ⇒ 78650 Hence, population of the city after two years is 78650
