Breathing involves two processes- inhalation and exhalation. Taking in air rich in oxygen is called inhalation. The removal of air rich in carbon dioxide outside the body is called exhalation.

Respiration is the process by which oxygen is used to breakdown food to release energy. It is of two types: Aerobic and anaerobic.

Lungs are the respiratory organs in mammals. The lungs are a pair of spongy, air-filled organs located on either side of the chest (thorax). The trachea (windpipe) conducts inhaled air into the lungs through its tubular branches, called bronchi. The bronchi then divide into smaller and smaller branches (bronchioles), finally becoming microscopic.

Gills are branching organs located on the side of fish heads that have many, many small blood vessels called capillaries. As the fish opens its mouth, water runs over the gills, and blood in the capillaries takes up oxygen that's dissolved in the water.

The diaphragm helps in inhalation and exhalation. It is a thin dome-shaped skeletal muscle that sits at the base of the chest and separates the abdomen from the chest. It contracts and flattens when you inhale. This creates a vacuum effect that pulls air into the lungs. When you exhale, the diaphragm relaxes and the air is pushed out of lungs.
