All combustion reactions are oxidations but all oxidations are not combustions. Why?

Combustion is a process in which a substance combines chemically with oxygen to produce heat and light energy. It is an oxidation reaction because oxygen is added to the substance. For example:

${CH}_{4} (g) + 2 O_{2} (g) \to {CO}_{2} (g) + 2 H_{2} O (l)$

In contrast, an oxidation reaction is characterised by the addition of oxygen to the reactant, removal of hydrogen from the reactant or the loss of electrons by the reactant. It does not always result in the liberation of heat energy as in a combustion reaction. For example:

$Fe (s) + {CuSO}_{4} (aq) \to {FeSO}_{4} (aq) + Cu (s)$

In this displacement reaction, iron converting into iron sulphate is an oxidation reaction but not a combustion reaction. This oxidation reaction is not characterised by the direct addition of oxygen to the reactant but, in the entire reaction, iron loses its electron to become ${Fe}^{+ +}$ in the solution that in turn results in the formation of iron sulphate.
