During the Medieval period, the Bhakti movement started a new era in Indian society.Before that, people were religious, but Indian society was plagued by superstition. People were more scared of the religious heads and saints than Kings. Due to this, many opportunists took undue advantage of them.

People were ignorant about the main philosophies which were propagated by religious books like the Vedas, Puranas, etc. The society was caste-based and lower caste people were suppressed by the upper caste.

They were introduced with the main philosophies of the religious texts through the Bhakti saints. They thought them every person are equal in front of God. They condemned the caste system. They showed people, they can attain salvation through devotion. If the Bhakti saints had not reformed the religious and social condition of the society,the society remained the same.
