Charging by rubbing is called "charging by friction". We know that during the formation of clouds, water vapour moves up and condensed there to form water molecules. These molecules have static charges in them. When these molecules strike, neutralisation of charges take place due to which a streak of light is produced and loud sound of thundering is heard.
